IRON SKIRT STORIES SALON

A communal night of storytelling of true and personal tales.

Welcome to the Iron Skirt Stories Salon! At The Salon we invite you to attend an in-person event where seven women will read ten minutes of a true story they have written.

The evening is a curated production and the women will have had an opportunity to work with our guest dramaturge and performance director.

The Salon is an opportunity for people to gather and form community and support your fellow women artists!

TICKETS are $23 and we will have a bar! We hope you stick around for our wonderful after party!

What do I Write About?

Iron Skirt Stories features original work from women about a true event they have experienced. Although the details of the stories vary, each piece centers around an occurrence or circumstance in their life. The stories are encouraged to have some structure to it, beginning, middle and end, however, this does not mean that everything needs to get wrapped up in a bow. The general structure should be more: this is what happened, then this happened and this is where the story ended up.

The bigger themes in each story tend to revolve around emotional, physical or mental wounds, loss, heartbreak, difficult decisions…But have a strong sense of resiliency at its core. The stories often include humor within the pain or challenge, so it is important to incorporate some levity into the writing as well.

To sum up, the stories should feel authentic, honest and vulnerable. They should also include an essence of hope, strength and resiliency. Iron Skirt Stories are about women who allow the audience to enter into the deepest parts of themselves for a moment in time. They are written with truth and courage.
