(tech and performance date)

1pm-9:30pm

Los Angeles, CA

For teens who self identify as female, trans, non-binary and gender non-conforming.

Ages 14-19

An artistic workshop for teens to write, perform and process a true and original story.

This five day workshop will focus on students picking a true story that they would like to write and perform. Unlike other writing and acting workshops, in Iron Skirt Stories: Teens, we will help these young women find their story, hone in on their performance and acting skills and then give them space to process their work at the end of each day.

The combination of art and group processing will allow these young women to create a safe and fun environment so that they can begin to merge their personal lives with their creative lives.

Each day will consist of:

  • warm ups to promote bonding and connective relationships with students and teachers
  • an introduction to the Meisner technique, taught by experienced Meisner teacher and actor, Amy Marcs
  • personal story writing with teacher and playwright, Dana Schwartz and Dramaturg, Sasha Hawkes
  • performance coaching with seasoned actor, Andrew Hawkes
  • end of day process group with Sasha Hawkes, a licensed therapist in California.

At the end of the week there will be a performative reading of the stories the girls have written at a theater in North Hollywood.

*Participating in the final performance is encouraged, but not mandatory for participation in the workshop.
